Unclaimed Ohio Property search

Do you have Ohio unclaimed property or funds?  The following information may help you retrieve what is yours.

Would you like to locate a lost saving, checking, certificate of deposit or money market account?   Perhaps it is payroll which includes wages, bonuses and commissions, or stocks and bonds:   uncashed dividends, interest checks, etc. that you are looking for.  It could be insurance proceeds, credit balances; customer deposits, travelers checks, money orders, etc. If you would like to find your unclaimed funds, you may search for those accounts by visiting the following web site at the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Unclaimed Funds: http://www.com.ohio.gov/unfd/TreasureHunt.aspx

Type in your first and last name and the name of your business if applicable to begin your search. Be advised that this state sponsored search engine is only available for private use and not professional use.  You must have a proprietary interest in the funds to obtain a claim form for yourself at this web site.  You may also request a form for a family member or a friend.

If the account is for more than $100, you will need to have the form notarized.  You must return this form and the necessary documentation listed on the form to the Division of Unclaimed Funds, 77 South High Street, 20th floor, Columbus, Ohio 43215-6108.

After an account has been inactive for three to five years the state becomes custodian of the funds and are then held forever or until they are claimed by their rightful owner.

What happens to the contents of your safety deposit box if they are  unclaimed?  After the safety deposit box contract with the bank expires, the contents of the box will revert to the Division of Unclaimed Funds, which then  will be auctioned.   The proceeds will pay for any bank credits or liens.  The balance of your money will be held until you claim it.

Ohio unclaimed property such as boats, cars, and real estate are not held by the Division of Unclaimed Funds.  You will need to search other sites to locate your property.
